At a recent dinner party, I was surveying the menu to find out acceptable options. Unable to decide with confidence (there were no labels), I asked the Mexican behind the counter, “I am a vegetarian. What can I have?”
Pat came the reply: “Roast beef, and ham.”

Try saying that you need something that contains no meat…they may understand that
You can have a "no meat, no chicken, no pork, no ham, no steak, no fish" burger – two buns with a slice of tomato and a lettuce in between.
I know, I know. I have been through the "no meat, no chicken… " routine very many times. However, the point here is not that the guy did not realize the technicalities behind what constitutes "vegetarian".
Guru! you didn't use the majik words…
That is why I never go to dinner parties unless it is at a friend's place. I am very skeptical and open up the burritos for inspection. So I decided to get tacos which requires minimal check
I see a philosopher in that guy.
What would you answer if someone asks “I am a virgin. What can I have?”
- The answer is obvious.

@Selva: I don’t get it. Virgins are not supposed to eat roast beef?

Any of the language schools in Morelia should be able to give you a definitive answer.
