Kuselan’s failure is a huge victory for Tamil cinema.

  3. Surya - the next superstar It is very clear - Surya currently leads the race to become the next superstar of Tamil cinema. One can arrive at no other conclusion after watching Vel. Surya's introduction scene in the movie is cliched - and he uses even more cliches when he talks about how to hold the aruvaal. But once the dust settles, his acting talent reveals itself, and so is his ability to win over every section of the audience. Contrast this with Azhagiya...
  4. Two amazing moviesAs the 2008 movie Vellithirai (itself a very good movie) opens, a voice-over laments, "Though Tamil cinema is 75 years old, it is hard for a Tamilian to point out 75 top-class movies made in Tamil." My daddy strongest![A look at Cheran's Thavamai Thavamirundhu]  When the history of Tamil cinema is written, and when people have to address the question of which actor suited best the role of the father, the unanimous choice would have been S.V. 1. Now why is that ? I haven’t seen the movie. But people I have talked to and rediff also have given it a positive rating . For once Tamil people have been exposed to real cinema , the kind made in Kerala .

  2. I partly agree with Sundar. Kuselan reminds me of so many things you see in a Malayalam movie. But if the essence of a malayalam movie is conveyed in full, it would have been lot better.

To make Rajini’s fans love this movie, P.Vasu did some right modifications in the wrong place and thereby spoiling the movie …

  3. I didn’t mean to compare Tamil and Malayalam cinema. Rather, I wanted to delineate good cinema from bad. The makers of Kuselan hoped that they can fool the Tamil audience by milking brand Rajnikanth and masking their poor execution under his star power.

But the audience, by way of footfalls, have registered their protest against what is undoubtedly an affront on their sensibilities. The same can be said of crass, downright bad movies like Kuruvi.

And the resounding success of good, low-budget movies is a sign of a maturing movie audience.
