Each of these, meant originally to be transactions between Man and Himself now have very flourishing counterfeit black markets.

At least, for lesser mortals, visits to these holy places makes them to conc on their faith and creates a make believe situation that they will overcome their current hardships.
So, places of worship are integral to this age civilizational needs. May be their administration worries a lot. Thats because of the patronage system that governs it.
