Dasavathaaram & Vinayaka Chathurthi

Of all the comments that I have come across concerning Dasavathaaram, this one was the best. The sentence in bold was ROTFL-ly funny.

From Shrinivas’ Seven Point Someone:

“The idol that is drowned in the sea along with Rangarajan in 12th century by Chozha king results in a fault being developed at the bottom of the ocean and creates tremors more than 800 years later. These tremors result in the Tsunami. This again is a classic case of Butterfly Effect wherein a seemingly inconsequential event (the drowning of the idol) saves Tamil Nadu from being wiped off the face of the earth.”

Kamal fans are making a fool of themselves by offering such explanations. Did any one give such stupid explanations when asked “How did the Ghilli team reach the finals after loosing in the semifinals of the Kabaddi Tournament?” This is probably the worst possible explanation for the 12th century bit. If drowning an idol into the ocean can cause a fault on the crust of the earth, then I kindly appeal to the Government of India to stop all the Vinayaka Chaturthi Processions because so many idols are drowned in the ocean. They may result in faults being formed on the crust of the earth and another Tsunami may be caused.

  1. Lol! I’m sick of reading forwards about Dasavatharam and its greatness. I admire Kamal for the work and dedication he showed in the movie but that’s about it. There is no strong storyline to back his work and hence all his efforts are wasted. I just don’t understand why people don’t get this simple fact. I’m even arguing with some of my close friends in India because there, the movie is running full shows and here, the movie is not doing good at all.

  2. For those who tries to find fault in whatever they come across, … lemme give a honest comment.. please leave your frustrations jealousness behind while writing. You don have anything to support and your comments are absurd. I am not a Kamal fan, one of my friend sponsored me the tickets and gosh.. What a movie, what kind of an actor is he.. what is he made of.. Kamal the meaning of “VERSATILE” the next morning i pestered the same friend so much and i sponsored his tickets cos the movie was too good.. Mindblowing performance, the movie clocked 3 hrs and 15 minutes.. not even a single minute for that matter a single frame was boring. A true master piece from the Genius. Am sure it is a run away hit. Rocking with 41 prints in US, 58 screens in Malaysia, doin well in UK… 134 shows in major theatres in Chennai alone… what else do u need

  3. Edwin, get a life, PLEASE! The excerpt above was posted because I thought it (the bolded part) was funny. It has nothing to do with the movie being a flop or a hit.

  4. There was one good thing about the movie that it finally ended. And sad part was I lost 52 dollars for 4 tickets. Nothing more to write. Period

  5. Well, there is nothing funny about it. It is scientific - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect.

I don’t think the movie claims dropping the statue IS the reason for tsunami. But it just could have been one small contributing factor. Had that event not happened, results COULD have been different.

Quoted from the above wikipedia article - “Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different. Of course the butterfly cannot literally cause a tornado.”
