Couldn’t be better for a United fan, as the Reds draw Lille, probably the easiest opponents. At least considering that Man U could have been drawn against Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Roma, Lille look like godsend. I think United lost against Lille away last year, but this time, Sir Alex’s men should master the French job with ease.
Probably the most mouth-watering tie is Liverpool v/s Barcelona (of course, any game featuring Barca is worth watching). Barcelona should welcome back Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi from the treatment room. I’ll put my money on the Catalans to win this.
Chelsea have a relatively easy draw against Mourinho’s former club, FC Porto. Celtic play out-of-form AC Milan, while the other Milanese team, Inter have been drawn against old foes Valencia.
Arsenal have been handed a tough fixture against PSV Eindhoven, while Real Madrid have a really tough tie against Bayern Munich, the Germans having probably the stingiest defence in Europe. French champions Lyon will have to do battle with Totti’s Roma.
I predict Man U, Barca, Chelsea, Milan, Inter, Arsenal, Bayern and Lyon to make it to the quarterfinals. The last-16 will be played on Feb 20/21 and March 6/7.

@Reagan: Surely Barcelona have too much creativity for Liverpool. I can wager all my money: if Liverpool play an open game, Barca will murder them.

Well, i assume you never know what’s Liverpool all about on European stage especially when they’re tagged underdogs. I might be overconfident, but that’s how i feel about Liverpool’s chances against Barcelona. Nevertheless, this is one sure game that I’ve always hoped for as a football and Liverpool fan.

liverpool can frustrate barca with their game but its too difficult to beat them. Another exciting clash is real madrid-bayern. Think they are meeting for the umpteenth time in knock out stages and still their rivalry is exciting. My bet is on Real Madrid though.

My first reaction when i saw the draw was “%&#@, lucky bugger Fergie”.. but then there is a silver lining in every cloud… the more Man U go forward in the Champions League, the lesser their chances of winning the EPL which just suits us fine…Totally agree with you that the draw has indeed thrown up some intriguing matchups…Agree with most of your predictions though I have a feeling Real might just about pip Bayern since the latter is not doing too well in the Bundesliga…As for the Liverpool vs Barca showdown, if Benitez is the shrewd tactician I think he is, he will play 4-5-1 at the Nou Camp, try and scrap a goal somehow and then look to do damage at Anfield…The game will be anything but open but i still think Barca will pip it in the end.
Btw, didja see this weekend’s EPL matches? He he he he…two wonder goals to seal victory and Man U losing.. could it have been better?
